The potential market for organic vegetables and fruits, such as blueberries, raspberries and aguaymanto was highlighted during the Fruit Logistica 2015 in Berlin.
After the participation of Sierra Exportadora, along with other government institutions in the Fruit Logistica 2015 in Berlin (Germany), the President of the multi-sector body, Alfonso Velasquez Tuesta, noted that organic berries are the fruits they expect will have the biggest growth in exports.
In that regard, he stressed, there is a great opportunity in the European market for blueberries, raspberries and strawberries; as well as for the fresh aguaymanto, in fresh, frozen and dehydrated fruits.
"Peru has been the great attraction of the International Pavilion at the fair in Berlin. Now we have work to do, such as boosting the production of organic products and being bold in our phytosanitary agreements to increase our markets. In addition, we must boost research, our products' adaptation and promising varieties, "said Velasquez Tuesta.
During the Fruit Logistica 2015, Sierra Exportadora presented Peru's National Berries Program, which promotes the association of small producers of blueberries, aguaymanto, raspberries and strawberries from the highlands so that they can export. Now, this national program also seeks to boost production of cherries.
Velásquez Tuesta also stated that Peru is increasingly being positioned as an agricultural exporter, which is growing by innovating and generating profitability for its farmers and investors.
"There are new products such as bananas, the Granada, figs and dates which also occupy a space in the varied portfolio of entrepreneurs who are always seeking new niches and achieving cost effective and timely business," he said.
