Blueberries are a simple, healthful snack or meal addition for both parents and children. The U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council (USHBC) is committed to educating parents about the health benefits of blueberries, as well as their great taste and ease of use, and the importance of teaching healthy habits to the next generation.
In 2014, the USHBC, in partnership with Kaleidoscope Youth Marketing, connected with 100,000 parents and youth through 316 elementary schools across the U.S., offering recipes, nutrition facts and activity sheets. Not only did the program help educate families, it also increased blueberry purchase intent by 30%. And, 67% of school nutrition managers said they would offer more blueberries on their menus as a result, translating into 67,000 new potential customers.
The success of the program in 2014 has spurred the USHBC to continue the program in 2015. Programs reaching another 100,000 families will roll out in 300+ more U.S. schools in April and May, driving more customers into stores throughout the summer. Stay tuned for this year’s results!
