Crystal Valley has announced expanded category offerings this summer, sharing that, in addition to its strong asparagus and specialty import programs, it is now offering imported blueberries and blackberries under both its Crystal Valley and Fresh Approach (Team Produce) labels.
“The acquisition of Team Produce earlier this year, a leader and one of the first in the import berry businesses over 30 years ago, has enabled us to expand our blackberry volume as well enter into the blueberry, raspberry, and strawberry categories,” said Jay Rodriguez, President and Owner, Crystal Valley Foods. “Our advantage is not only our strong and long-term grower relationships but also that we source from a variety of countries and growing regions, enabling us to have significant volume at the beginning and end of the season.”
Blackberries from Guatemala have already started shipping and the company expects volume to increase throughout the next several weeks, according to a press release. The company plans to offer both organic and conventional Mexican blackberries from mid-September through May.
The company’s first shipments of blueberries will start in mid-September, arriving from Peru, Argentina, and Mexico. And starting in November, Chilean fruit will be available through April.
“We are looking forward to good volume this year and will be looking to add other growing regions in order to have berry availability not only throughout the import season, but also year-round,” added Jay.
Crystal Valley has consolidation points at its distribution centers in Miami and Los Angeles, as well as in McAllen and Philadelphia. Programs for both blueberries and blackberries are available.
