The export of the Chilean blueberry has increased with 34% between 2005 and 2010. This according to a report by Odepa, that also states that with a 389-million-dollar export in 2011 the blueberry takes up 10.2% of the total fruit export, making Chile the largest exporter of blueberries.
The frozen blueberry trade has also taken off with 27,400 tons and 91 million USD. Together with fresh blueberries a total of 479 million dollars was shipped outward.
Prospects for the coming year are positive. The Comité de Arándanoses anticipates an export upwards of 84,000 tons: a growth of 18.3% compared to last season.
