Argentinean Blueberry Committee – Argentina

The Argentinean Blueberry Committee (ABC) is a nonprofit organization that was formally established in 2010 to promote a positive image for the Argentinean blueberry industry and to communicate the quality, reliability and availability of Argentinean blueberries in both the US and around the globe.

In all Committee represents over 60% of Argentina’s blueberry exports and it is formed by the country’s main blueberry exporters. The US is Argentina’s largest consumer, importing up to 63% of Argentina’s shipments during its fall season, during the months of September through December. Other important destinations are the U.K. and mainland Europe.

The ABC provides ongoing information on estimated volumes, anticipated departure and arrival dates, and harvest and weather conditions broken down by week and growing region. Pre‐season information is published in two detailed crop reports in late August and late September. During the season, weekly reports are issued with the actual exported volumes and estimated volumes for the next two weeks.

Additionally the ABC collaborates with other regional blueberry producers, Uruguay and Chile, to provide accurate harvest estimates on a regional basis.

Blueberry production is focused in three general areas of central Argentina: Buenos Aires (Buenos Aires, San Luis and Córdoba provinces); Concordia (includes Entre Ríos, Corrientes and Misiones provinces); and Tucumán (includes Tucumán, Salta, La Rioja and Santiago del Estero provinces.}

This year, the total amount of Argentinean blueberries to be exported to the U.S. by air and sea is estimated at more than 11,000 tons. To other destinations, Argentina will export an additional 6,000 tons of fresh blueberries, with an overall expected growth of 15% compared to the previous year – 2010. In the past five years, Argentina’s blueberry exports around the world have tripled to satisfy the growing off-season demand in the U.S., Europe and other regions around the world.

The association’s President is Fernando Skiarski.
