In recent years, the Chinese blueberry industry has seen remarkable growth in production capacity and trade volume, marked by the rapid expansion of cultivation areas. However, the issue of intellectual property protection of varieties has become a critical challenge, with frequent infringement cases posing major obstacles to innovation and sustainable development of the industry.
In this context, and according to a publication by Produce Report, the CFNA (China Chamber of Commerce for the Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Native Products and Animal By-Products) Blueberry Committee was created on November 16, which took place during the celebration in the city of Yuxi, in the province of Yunnan, of the China International Blueberry Conference 2024, organized by the CFNA and co-organized by the China International Fruit Exhibition (China Fruit).
This Committee was created to address the growing concern for the protection of intellectual property rights for varieties and to establish a solid foundation for the healthy growth of the sector. Thus, the CFNA Blueberry Committee, in collaboration with leading companies, has officially published the Initiative for the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights for Blueberry Varieties. This initiative calls on all stakeholders in the sector to prioritize and actively engage in the protection of intellectual property rights related to blueberry varieties.
